2024 Canada Summer Job Youth Recreational & Leisure Coordinator
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to join our team as a Youth Recreational and Leisure Activities Program Coordinator. This role will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing recreational and leisure activities for youth within our community. We are aiming to provide a 1-on-1 mentorship and supervision program to help the chosen candidate develop skills, and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labor market.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a diverse range of recreational and leisure activities for youth, including sports, arts and crafts, cultural events, outdoor excursions, and educational workshops.
Coordinate and facilitate programs, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
Conduct research to identify suitable activities and resources for youth engagement, keeping in mind the cultural backgrounds and interests of the Ethiopian community. Collaborate with community partners, local organizations, and volunteers to maximize the impact of the programs and enhance the overall experience for participants.
Recruit, train, and supervise program staff and volunteers to ensure effective program delivery.
Manage program logistics, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Evaluate the success and impact of the programs, gather feedback from participants and stakeholders, and make improvements as necessary
Promote the programs through various channels, such as social media, community events, and outreach activities.
Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Qualifications
Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment (in accordance with the agreement on the Canada Summer Jobs website).
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Canada
Be legally entitled to work in Canada
Experience in planning and coordinating recreational and leisure activities for youth, preferably within a community or non-profit would be an asset.
Knowledge of Ethiopian culture and community dynamics is highly desirable.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate youth from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated leadership abilities and the capacity to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with social media platforms for program promotion.
Valid First Aid and CPR certifications (or willingness to obtain).
Fluency in English is required, and proficiency in Amharic or other Ethiopian languages is an asset.
